Rebel Cello Meets Lowland & Border Pipers

My first Rebel Cello spoken word outing with film and looper at Heart of Hawick went well, and now up ahead is a mini taster at the annual meetup of the Lowland and Border Pipers’ Society. Times/tickets below! Thanks to Border piper maestro and composer Matt Seattle for inviting me. I’m doing some new Scots stories from this part of the world, along with video experiments.

“Brilliant: a really moving, witty, funny and fun piece… a great night.”

Michael Pattison, Alchemy Film & Arts

A delightful mix of spoken word, song and moving images, including not one, but two looped recorder & cello Kraftwerk cover versions

Jason Moyes, Live Borders

“Fun, moving, intriguing, zany.”

Lara Green, Lara Green Arts

Also performing at the LBPS gig are Borders writer and actor John Nichol, and storyteller James MacDonald Reid.

Sat 30th October 2pm – 5pm with tea in between. Non-pipers welcome! Tickets £10 here.

Michael (Scott) ❤️ and I have just got a wee Raspberry Pi computer for doing film playout, after learning how to wrangle it, from friends at Alchemy Film & Arts. It’s a bit of a techie leap, but means solo spoken word artists can add video to their mix – great for rural touring (hopefully).

Lots of things can go wrong with DIY tech, but thankfully, nothing did. We even managed a back projection with members of Borders Youth Theatre Esme and Seb. Some pictorial evidence (with thanks to Jason Moyes at LiveBorders):

I was able to buy a video camera, new mic and RPi with support from Creative Scotland, which has made a huge difference. Thank you! First time I’ve applied under my own steam and you can find out how by visiting their site below.
