Jules Horne

Hello! I write plays for stage and radio, spoken word in Scots, and fiction with a Scottish Gothic flavour. I’m from the Scottish Borders, the home of the Border ballads, so it’s not surprising I love stories with larger-than-life characters in small, strange worlds. (Angela Carter and Mervyn Peake are huge favourites). Very special times in my writing journey so far include 8 plays on BBC radio and a trilogy of plays for Nutshell Theatre: ALLOTMENT, THREAD (both Fringe First Award winners at Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and HANDFAST. As artist in residence with Alchemy Film & Arts in my home town of Hawick, I’ve most recently been working on The Big Border Bogle Hunt, a site-specific play and augmented reality film exhibition drawing on community film archives.

This is my creative writing site, with links to plays, books and teaching. I also write copy for local businesses over at Texthouse.

Watch oot! Bogles aboot!

The Big Border Bogle Hunt is an interactive story experience created as part of my residency with Alchemy Film & Arts. This culminated in a Halloween play with panto elements at Heart of Hawick, and an augmented reality (AR) film exhibition at Wilton Lodge Park.
