Open University Creative Writing Course Year 2018

The new Open University creative writing course year is underway! I teach on the A363, A802 and A803 courses which, if you’re unfamiliar with Open University course speak, means Advanced Creative Writing (focusing on dramatic technique), and the new OU MA in Creative Writing. The first cohort of MA students have finished their course, and I’m excited to be working with a new group of fiction writers.  Here’s the MA course team – I wrote some of the Year 2 Script chapters along with fellow playwright Hannah Vincent.

This year, for the first time I’ll be using Adobe Connect to run online workshops from the comfort of home. Usually, I head up to Glasgow to use their uni facilities, so that’ll be a nice change. Is Adobe Connect useful for teaching creative writing? I’ll report back! It’ll certainly means changing my teaching style and adapting the materials for online.  Thankfully, we’ve now got superfast broadband in my super-rural area, so I hope we’ll avoid hiccups with teaching technology.

Here’s more about my creative writing teaching.
